From Margaret ILOTT (née SAXELBY) - In 1698 will, William Bell left to his widowed daughter Mary Taylor for life, and to his granddaughter Elizabeth Birkitts therafter a farm:

- I do hereby devise all wherever I live and close and croft adjacent thereunto and 13 oxgangs of land, meadow and appurtenances, and three ancient cottages in occupation of Joseph Sudbury, Elizabeth Pilgrim and John Smith and two newly erected cottages in occupation of William Pratt and Thomas Jalland with their appurtenances and 21acres of meadow in Holme meadows unto Mary, my daughter during her natural life. After her decease to Elizabeth Birkitts, my grandchild and her heirs-

£2 left annually to the poor of Coddington out of land on Beacon Field.

1697 Elizabeth Taylor married Mr Richard Birkitts of Balderton.

1700/01 Richard and Elizabeth Birkitts move in with mother Mary Taylor née Bell.  Mary died 1719.

C1720 Richard and Elizabeth Birkitts move back to Balderton, leaving his son William (b~1698) on the Coddington farm.

21 Jul 1730 William BIRKITTS [BIRKETT] marries Elizabeth LANGLEY (as the Widow LANGLEY - before that Elizabeth SQUIRE); they had a daughter Mary, (later DAVISON b. 1831) and two sons; William (b 1732) and Samuel (b 1734).

Pre 1757 - Richard BIRKETT of Balderton settled the farm brought to him by his wife Elizabeth TAYLOR (on their marriage 27 Dec 1697 at Kilverton) on his eldest son William; on William's death in 1756 - in 1757 settled Charity Farm (--) on his second son Samuel BIRKETT.

Samuel BIRKETT married Elizabeth PRATT - he left the farm to her for her life with other bequests - the farm to be sold on her death and divided equally between four of his sons. Elizabeth Birkett died 1819 - house sold 1820 - auctioned off at The Plough (see poster of sale from Rosemary Frost). Farm bought by John Ashwell, farmer and gentleman for £582 15s

15 1885 Chauntry Hunt complained of their son-s lack of attendances at school to his parents. Mother said her son had to earn money because his father was out of work.

A Bryan boy caned for impudence later that year.  Several Bryan families and many children.

15 Mr William  - June 1890 - William started work - but was forced back to school by the attendance officer who told his employer that he had not passed 4th standard.  After a period of gross irregularity, he was forced back to school by threatening hisparents with a summons
