The History Group runs some very interesting talks by speakers from around the local area, open to both members and non-members. We also organise visits to other local history groups, and outings to historic sites and archives / museums for members.
Autumn Speaker Programme
Thursday 12th September - Gerry Burrows – Peter Carl Fabergé Jeweller to the Tzars. TheHouse of Fabergé is famed for its Imperial Easter Eggs, but it made many more objects ranging from silver tableware to fine jewelry and the Fabergé company became the largest jewellery business in Russia.
Thursday 21st October John Taylor – the life of William Cavendish. Find out more about Bess of Hardwick’s third son who was created the 1st Duke of Newcastle.
Thursday 18th November Ian Morgan - The Fossdyke – a watery tale of mystery and intrigue. Thought to be Britain’s oldest canal and built by the Romans, perhaps the mysteries will be revealed!
